How Do You Show Up?

In addition to having a great look, there are a few other distinctions you need to make that will contribute to helping others be receptive to you in business, and in life.

You absolutely need to look fabulous, so using Fawn will give you a leg up right from the moment you walk in the room. Your outfit and how you’re put together from a clothing and fashion perspective will allow others to have a sense of trust in you, your skills and abilities.

Here are five other boxes you need to check in order to be unforgettable, and take your success to the next level:

  • Be on time. Nothing says, “I’m calm, cool, collected” like someone who arrives a few minutes early. If you arrive a few minutes late, take a minute to catch your breath (in the men’s or ladies’ room). We’ve all arrived at events late, with messy hair and feeling disorganized, and the message it conveyed was questionable at best. You simply can’t afford to give off that as your first impression.
  • Smile. Add a smile to your arrival, and show your teeth. It conveys approachability and friendly, and we all want to get to know friendly people.
  • Have your cards handy. Digging around in your Marc Jacobs bag while apologizing and saying  “It must be in here somewhere” will make the person who is asking question their initial judgment.
  • Have nice business accessories. The glass on your iPhone shouldn’t be cracked, your pen could be a nice silver or gold one (Cross makes lovely pens at all price points), and if you still carry an agenda or paper planner, make sure they are immaculate, organized and without a bunch of loose papers or post-it notes.
  • Be interested and interesting. You already know about yourself, so if you don’t already know all about the folks you’re meeting, this is the time to get curious. Use the 5 W’s: who, what, where, when and why to formulate questions that will help you to gather information. Ask the right questions, and you’ll find out what you really want to know: are they a potential client, product or service provider, friend, all of the above or none of the above.

A well-put together, friendly and smiling person, who shows up with grace and ease increases their chance of landing the big client, making the powerful connection and frankly, enjoying life a whole lot more. From now on, let that person be you!
